Delayed Afterglow Onset Interpreted as Baryon-Poor Viewing Angle

چکیده

We have suggested previously that baryons in GRB fireballs infiltrate from the surrounding walls that collimate the fireball. The efficiency ǫb for generating blast energy can then be angle dependent. Delayed onset of afterglow can be interpreted as being due to a baryon-poor viewing angle. The Case for Anisotropic Afterglow Efficiency within Gamma-Ray Burst Jets

Early X-ray afterglows recently detected by Swift frequently show a phase of very shallow flux decay lasting from ∼ 10 s up to ∼ 10 s, followed by a steeper, more familiar decay. We suggest that the flat early part of the light curve may be a combination of the decaying tail of the prompt emission and the delayed onset of the afterglow emission observed from viewing angles slightly outside the ...

The Jet Angular Profile and the Afterglow Light Curves

We investigate how the angular structure of GRB jets effects the afterglow light curves at different viewing angles, θv, from the jet symmetry axis. A numerical hydrodynamical modeling for the evolution of a relativistic collimated outflow, as it interacts with the surrounding medium, is carried out, and compared to two simple models that make opposite and extreme assumptions for the degree of ...

Afterglow lightcurves, viewing angle and the jet structure of γ-ray bursts

Gamma ray bursts are often modelled as jet-like outflows directed towards the observer; the cone angle of the jet is then commonly inferred from the time at which there is a steepening in the power-law decay of the afterglow. We consider an alternative model in which the jet has a beam pattern where the luminosity per unit solid angle (and perhaps also the initial Lorentz factor) decreases smoo...

Constraining the Structure of GRB Jets Through the Afterglow Light Curves

We investigate the effect that the structure of GRB jets has on the afterglow light curves for observers located at different viewing angles, θobs, from the jet symmetry axis. The largest uncertainty in the jet dynamics is the degree of lateral energy transfer. Thus, we use two simple models, that make opposite and extreme assumptions for this point, and calculate the light curves for an extern...

Comments on the paper “ Polarimetric Constraints on the Optical Afterglow

GRB 990123 is the most luminous event detected so far, and in an important paper, Hjorth et al. (1999) reported an upper limit on the degree of linear polarization of the optical afterglow for this burst (P < 2.3%). One of the interprtations for this small value of P was that the emission was probably due a relativistic jet with ordered magnetic field, and the viewing angle in the lab frame θ <...
